Terms of service
The deal between you and Proofer. Plain English, no surprise clauses.
1. What Proofer is
Proofer is a self-service tool that helps you organize evidence and generate written templates for consumer disputes (warranty claims, refunds, damaged delivery, billing disputes). It is not a law firm, a legal service, or a substitute for advice from a qualified professional.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old and able to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction. You agree to provide accurate information when filling out forms — knowingly false information voids your access to the packet and may result in a refund being denied.
3. Your account
Proofer does not require registration. The email you provide on each form is the address we use to send the generated packet and any follow-ups. Keep that email accessible — it's your only path back to the packet besides the share link.
4. Payment
Proof packets cost $5 CAD per packet (or whatever price is shown at checkout). Payment is processed by Stripe and is non-recurring. We do not store full card details. Prices may change for new orders, but never retroactively for ones you've already paid.
5. Refunds
If your packet fails to generate, contains corrupted output, or is otherwise unusable, you can request a refund within 7 days of purchase. See the dedicated refund policy for the full terms and process.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Proofer to harass, defame, or commit fraud, to upload content that infringes someone else's rights, or to file claims you know to be false. We will refuse service and revoke share links if we discover abuse, and we will cooperate with legitimate law-enforcement requests.
7. Your content
You retain ownership of everything you upload (receipts, photos, descriptions, etc.). You grant Proofer a limited license to host, process, and render that content into a PDF for the duration of the packet's lifetime (30 days from generation). After expiry, your content is deleted from our active systems.
8. Service availability
We aim for high availability but make no guarantees. Generation depends on third-party services (Supabase, Stripe, Resend, optionally OpenAI) — when they're down, generation may queue or fail. Failure-notice emails always go out so you can retry or request a refund.
9. No legal advice
Proofer is a writing and organization tool. The letters it generates are templates. Nothing on this site is legal advice and using Proofer does not create an attorney-client relationship. For complex disputes, a lawyer or your local consumer protection office is the right next step.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Proofer's total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid for the affected packet. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental damages — including the outcome of any dispute you pursue using a Proofer packet.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify Proofer against any third-party claim arising from your misuse of the service or from content you uploaded that infringes another party's rights or violates the law.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when we add features or to comply with new regulations. Material changes will be announced on the homepage at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date counts as acceptance.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes that can't be resolved by direct communication are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Toronto, Ontario.
